Be Prepared for a Rewarding Experience

Participants should arrive early, between 8 and 9 a.m. prepared to stay for the entire event. Beginning at 9:00 am, Boats will take volunteers to various shoreline locations where trash is gathered along the muddy shoreline and immediate upland areas. Everything you wear is likely to get mud, dirt, or water on it. Wear clothing that can tolerate these conditions. Layer your clothing so you can adjust to the temperature. Since you will be on the water, the temperature often feels colder and the wind is a factor. If it is really cold you want to keep as dry as possible. Even if it is gray in the morning, it may be sunny by the afternoon. Hats, sunscreen, and other protection from the sun is suggested. The event is rain or shine! If rain is predicted, please bring appropriate rain resistant outer wear. Shoes are subject to being covered in mud. The shoe should stay on your foot if you step into soft mud. Rubber boots just below the knee might be a good alternative. Hip boots and waders are at your own risk. Either of these designs can fill with water and create a drowning hazard.

The CCEF provides gloves and trash bags. If you have your own gloves that will survive the mud and debris, please bring them along.

Water and food will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own snacks or drink.

You may wish to pack a clean, dry set of clothes and shoes in your car. Your muddy wet shoes and clothes can ride home in a plastic bag. If you do get wet, dry clothes will warm you up faster.
